Why armfloaties.org?

Mental health stuff is hard. Taking the first step to find help can be overwhelming.

For most of my life, I’ve dealt with depression. In my late teens, I found respite in standup comedy. Before I found professional help, it was my buoy in the storm. Even after I found medicine and therapy that’s helped me, standup comedy has held strong as a source of joy in my life.

One day in early 2020, I stumbled upon a comedy special from someone new, Taylor Tomlinson and her “Quarter Life Crisis” special. A couple years later, she released “Look At You”, and it resonated so well with me. Her bits about growing up and dealing with mental health mirrored so much of my own experience. Her analogy about “arm floaties” inspired me to make this site.

I remember how hard it was to get started with finding help. I remember the feelings I had when first mentioning it to my doctor and loved ones.

Armfloaties.org is my attempt at making it easier to find help. Sometimes knowing clearly what to do next and what to expect helps with that first step.

(While I was inspired by Taylor Tomlinson’s comedy, this site isn’t endorsed nor associated with her in any way.)
